Truecaller  uses tricky formula .  when  truecaller app download for mobile on ios and android  , truecaller ask you to allow access  to users address book or contact on smart phone , camera, microphone . It stores your data on its servers .

   In short it takes your data and shows others data to you .

Truecaller works on basis of information sharing by its users directly or indirectly. Suppose a user call it as XYZ installs truecaller, as soon as he installed it, all contacts from his phone get copied to truecaller server .

 Let assume this user has a contact number (123465789) of his friend saved as “Buddy” not as his actual as his name (assume ABC) . Out of which suppose 30 peoples saved his no as ABC , Some 30 odd saved as only AC or by any other name , And remaining 40 peoples saved it as “Budddy”.

Now in these case when ABC calls someone ,His number wiil be displayed only as “Buddy” though its his original name ,because when truecaller server looks up for ABC’s number ,it tally available data it have , compare it then displays result name that prevalent in most of users who have his number , this is a way truecaller works .
